Weekly Visit Scenario
Sandy and Charlie Johnson have been married for 51 years. They reside together, independently, on the Hamilton mountain in a home they have lived in for just as long. Sandy and Charlie have five children, 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Nothing brings them greater joy than getting together with their family to celebrate holidays, birthdays and “once a month Sunday dinners”.
Two years ago, Charlie was diagnosed with dementia. Sandy has been his primary caregiver, attending to his needs and taking him to various appointments and programs throughout the city of Hamilton every week. Two years into this journey, Sandy finds it extremely difficult to keep up with the daily demands of their family home. Although the Johnsons have many helping hands, Sandy feels awful, constantly calling on her family to assist them. “I just wish I had someone to come in once a week to complete all the chores I can’t keep up with.”
I just wish I had someone to come in once a week to complete all the chores I can’t keep up with.
With a weekly helpful home visit from @home elder care, Sandy can have someone come into her home once a week to do the laundry, mop the floors and tidy up the kitchen. Not only will the @home care provider tend to the upkeep of the house, but they will also arrange to have groceries delivered, pick up Charlie’s medications and water all the plants around the house. In between completing these tasks, the @home care provider will prepare lunch for Sandy and Charlie and spend a predetermined amount of time checking in with Sandy mentally and emotionally.
Their @home care provider that Sandy and Charlie have been matched with has the knowledge needed to help Sandy plan her husband’s next steps in dementia care. If and when Sandy feels it is needed, she can opt to have her @home care provider come to the house more often.
