Daily Visit Scenario
Susan Smith is an 81-year-old widow from Burlington, Ontario, who lives on her own in a one-bedroom condo at a retirement community. Susan recently downsized from a four-bedroom home where she raised her family for 60 years.
Once a social butterfly that loved hosting dinner parties with friends and family, Susan now finds it challenging to cook for herself.
I no longer have the energy to even think about food.
On top of losing the desire to cook, Susan feels dizzy every time she bends over and can no longer get onto her hands and knees. Susan had her left hip replaced three years ago and cannot stand for long periods of time. Last year, she decided to give up her car and now relies on public transportation to get around.
Susan’s @home care provider will visit with her three times a week, providing enough healthy meals to ensure Susan never goes without. Her @home care provider does the grocery shopping, prepares the meals and packages them up, so they are ready for Susan to heat and eat at her convenience.
Once the food is taken care of, Susan’s @home care provider throws in a load of laundry, sweeps the balcony and checks Susan’s voicemail on her behalf. Her @home care provider uses Susan’s iPad to set up weekly blood work appointments and arranges to have someone come into Susan’s home every two months for a deep clean of her unit.
Every visit requires something different from her @home care provider, which Susan decides during her daily visits.
Every visit requires something different from her @home care provider, which Susan decides during her daily visits. Susan’s @home care provider comes prepared to assist Susan with anything she may need help with on that specific day – mailing a package, troubleshooting a computer issue, cleaning the bathroom, polishing the silverware or picking up and moving an oversized item.
When Susan’s @home care provider isn’t completing the tasks discussed upon arrival of her daily home visits, they engage with Susan in a fun and interactive activity. Susan and her @home care provider complete puzzles, make decorative cards, and take short walks around the courtyard. More than anything else, Susan loves participating in meaningful conversations over a cup of hot tea with her @home care provider.
